Tech company Workfast has extended an Uber-like, on-demand recruitment platform it launched last year to the Australian mining industry.

The technology, which has already found success in Australia’s construction industry, will provide mining companies with access to labour hire workers at variable rates of pay, a first for the industry, according to the Sydney-based start-up.

A NEW business has launched which promises to supply workers in a jiffy and farmers are getting on board.

Sydney-based start-up Workfast launched in September and has been flat out matching employees and employers across all sectors in metro and rural areas. Its claim to fame is it can supply workers in a process that’s easy as “ordering an Uber”.

The start-up, headed by entrepreneur Tim Nieuwenhuis, relies on a web and mobile-based platform which allows employers to log their job, set a price and connect to workers.

EMPLOYERS are bracing for a financial hit of more than $50 million this Friday with nearly 380,000 workers expected to chuck post-Australia Day sickies.

With Australia Day falling on a Thursday this year, many will find it hard to resist the temptation of a four-day public holiday long weekend.

Tim Nieuwenhuis, CEO of on-demand labour-hire app Workfast, said one way employers could cut down on sickies was to say to staff early in the week: “I’m looking forward to seeing you on the 27th.”
