As the live entertainment and hospitality industries awaken from an enforced slumber, one Australian startup moved into a sweet, strategic position. Mr Yum, a Melbourne-based tech business that specialises in QR Code food ordering at pubs and restaurants, is applying the same technology for live concerts and music festivals. If the proof is in the pudding, then a handful of artists and music industry players have had a taste.

ARIA Award-winning electronic music trio Rüfüs Du Sol, along with Untitled Group, UNIFIED Music Group, San Antonio Spurs and Boomers star guard Patty Mills, and others, have joined other investors to the tune of $11 million in post seed funding for Mr Yum.

Mr Yum gears up for QR code ‘land grab’

Our client Mr. Yum made a big announcement today - it recently banked $11 million dollars in post-seed investment.

The investment was led by Brisbane venture firm TEN13, with AirTree taking the other major position. Heavy hitters from the tech, hospitality and entertainment industry also participated in the round, including US based Australian NBA-star Patty Mills of the San Antonio Spurs, internationally acclaimed electronic dance artists Rüfüs Du Sol and Shark Tank’s Andrew Banks.

Hospitality venues that use Mr. Yum's QR code ordering services have seen a 20-40% increase in customer spending and the company itself has seen business increase twenty seven times more than usual.
