THE selfie obsession has taken flight and has proven to be an advanced step up from the selfie stick, giving superior images on your iPhone. The $599 Dobby device connects to a smartphone using its own Wi-Fi network indoors and outdoors. It has face-and-object tracking and orbiting features.

Users download an app to turn their phone into a remote control, and can fly the drone for up to nine minutes between battery recharges.

Trish Ropiha, a social media manager for various businesses and the Chapel St Precinct Association, tested the drone and said its functions were “a lot of fun”. “You can get still shots that you can’t do yourself or with a selfie stick. There’s been a huge rise in blog Instagrams and people are always looking for ways to give them an edge,” Ms Ropiha, 25, said.
